Levan Davitashvili, the First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, on Thursday said there was an ideological alignment with the new United States administration, a point frequently emphasized by the ruling Georgian Dream party.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Davitashvili described this values-based alignment as a strong foundation for deeper and more effective cooperation between Georgia and the United States.
However, he also emphasised that shared values alone were not sufficient for advancing bilateral relations.
“I believe that this alignment of values is a very good prerequisite for us to have more productive cooperation in the future. We understand that this is not a sufficient condition for either Georgia or America, and it needs to be complemented by specific, mutually beneficial, and tangible plans that will make cooperation between the two countries even more productive”, the Minister said.
He further elaborated on the new US administration's priorities, saying that “we particularly understand the priorities of the new administration. They are clearly interested in ensuring that cooperation with the external world, with various countries and partners, takes into account the economic interests of the American people”.
Davitashvili also pointed to past projects between Georgia and the United States, noting that some of them lacked clearly defined or quantifiable goals. In contrast, he praised the new US administration’s pragmatic and rational approach.
