Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Tuesday said the European Union must reassess its attitude toward Georgia.
Kadagishvili’s comments came after Radio Liberty published an interview with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, who did not rule out the possibility of renewing dialogue with the ruling Georgian Dream party.
In his remarks, Kadagishvili noted that the European Union should have rejected the “harmful narrative” propagated by the opposition and certain external political circles from the outset.
“The European Union should reassess its attitude toward Georgia. We have heard nothing but loud statements on [parliamentary] elections illegitimacy, while the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights confirmed that the [parliamentary] elections were held in a competitive environment”, he said.
