Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the First Vice Speaker of Parliament, on Friday commented on global geopolitical dynamics, emphasising the continued Russian military presence in Georgia and warning against escalating international tensions.
In his remarks, Volski reiterated that Russia maintained not only its occupation forces in Georgia’s territories - Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region - but also strategic missile systems, intensifying the security threat to Georgia.
“Russia not only has an occupying army on our territory, but has also deployed missile systems. Clearly, this is not the stage for the United States to initiate another confrontation over this issue”, the Parliament official noted.
Volski remarked on growing rifts between the European Union and the United States, particularly concerning the war in Ukraine and trade policy.
“There are serious disagreements between the EU and the United States regarding the war in Ukraine and trade-related issues. China has granted visa-free access to all European countries to encourage the multiple agreements already signed between EU nations and China”, he continued.
“The new United States administration is trying not only to stop the war but also to gain access to valuable natural resources located in currently occupied Ukrainian territories. Imagine the scale of the problem the United States wants to solve. Sometimes there are even leaks implying that Russia might be right, or that it wasn’t the cause of the war, and so on - but we know this stems from underlying interests”, Volski concluded.
