Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction of the ruling party, on Tuesday said that the Georgian Government had declared a relentless fight against drug dealers.
The Georgian Parliament approved a new, stricter drug policy aimed primarily at drug dealers, with the legislation now awaiting the President's signature. The law introduces harsher penalties and new regulations, including the possibility of life imprisonment in many cases.
“It is a preventive-type law, as it will scare off many drug dealers and make them change professions. This is a serious challenge not only for our country but also for the world in general”, the Parliament official said.
“We are declaring an uncompromising fight against drug dealers, and the law is getting tougher. In many cases, they will face life sentences”, he concluded.
