Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday responded to a question regarding US journalist Tucker Carlson’s recent remarks on the Biden administration conducting a “proxy war” against Russia, noting that similar statements were made by the US President Donald Trump.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that Trump had made it clear that the real belligerents were not Russia and Ukraine, but rather Russia and the West.
“In addition to Tucker Carlson, such a statement was made directly by Donald Trump. He explicitly called the Russia-Ukraine war a so-called ‘proxy war’”, the PM said.
Kobakhidze stressed the risks of a direct conflict between nuclear powers, stating that such a war can have no winner.
“This is the reality that everyone already knows well - everything is laid out clearly. That’s why it is especially important for this war to end as soon as possible. Naturally, a war between Russia and the West cannot have a winner. Both sides are nuclear powers, and therefore, this war cannot produce a victor. The war must end so that peace can be established globally. I sincerely hope that the efforts of all sides will be maximally directed toward ending the war in Ukraine”, he concluded.
