Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said European bureaucrats - whom he claims are represented locally by radical opposition - have suffered a defeat in Georgia and are struggling to accept it.
Kaladze made these remarks in response to a question from journalists regarding the resolution adopted today by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
“The face of those bureaucrats who are threatening Georgia today, threatening the Georgian government, is truly represented by the radical opposition, that radical group that is standing in the street today, numbering a few dozen. These people cannot accept that they have been defeated. European bureaucrats have been defeated in Georgia because the Georgian people will not allow anyone to exploit Georgia's interests”, the ruling party official said.
Kaladze further referred to past experiences as cautionary examples, notably the events of 2008.
“We remember very well what happened in 2008, when Georgia's interests were misused - we lost territories, villages were destroyed, infrastructure was demolished, civilians and soldiers lost their lives. I would not wish on the enemy what happened in Ukraine. It is the most difficult thing we have seen in recent years. Accordingly, we are protecting our country and our country's interests”, he concluded.
