Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday extended his gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his support toward Georgia.
Papuashvili responded to Aliyev’s statement, who on Wednesday strongly criticised the European Union’s approach toward Georgia’s internal affairs, describing it as reminiscent of colonial-era attitudes.
In his remarks, the Speaker noted that this was the friendship that Georgia and Azerbaijan show to each other.
“This is the friendship that we show to our friends, and this is exactly the friendship that we expect and appreciate from others. This is not the first time, the strategic partnership that exists between Georgia and Azerbaijan is based precisely on this, that we respect, on the one hand, each other's sovereignty, and on the other hand, respect and stand by each other in order to promote each other's interests for the benefit of our peoples”, the Speaker said.
