Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday said the top task for the country was to improve the well-being of its citizens, noting that the issue of economic development has been elevated to the level of a national interest.
“The Georgian parliamentary delegation continues to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Union conference. We are also holding bilateral meetings today and tomorrow - both with representatives of European countries and with delegates from the host country and others”, the Speaker told Georgian journalists.
He noted that the topics of discussion varied depending on the counterparts.
“When speaking with representatives of EU member states, we focus on Georgia’s vision for EU integration and the challenges caused by the activities of certain dishonest European politicians and political groups. I believe our colleagues fully understand Georgia’s experience in this regard and show absolute support”, Papuashvili continued.
“Today, our number one task is to raise the well-being of our citizens. For us, economic development is on par with national interests. We are making use of all opportunities, including parliamentary diplomacy, to solidify Georgia’s role as a link between Europe and Asia and as one of the key transit corridors. These meetings serve that purpose as well”, Papuashvili concluded.
