Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said his Government was calmly monitoring the unfolding political developments following the US elections, noting that even in the worst-case scenario, where the previous Biden administration remained in power, Georgia was fully prepared.
“Of course, we had considered the worst-case scenario when elections were being held in the United States, which would have been the continuation of the previous administration. However, we were absolutely ready for that as well”, Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that regardless of any scenario, Georgia's independence remains unshaken.
“Now, Trump's election has already brought a significant result. The main result is that the public has understood many things differently. You can already see that the new Government in the United States is saying the same things about the previous Government that we have been saying for the past four years. This is already a very tangible and significant result”, he continued.
Kobakhidze further outlined two possible scenarios moving forward.
“As for future developments, let's see, we are ready for anything. There are two possible scenarios: one scenario is that Trump defeats the deep state, in which case this is a good scenario for us, which will contribute to the improvement of relations between Georgia and the United States. However, if Trump cannot defeat the deep state, in this case, there is a risk that events will continue to develop as they have for the past four years. We are ready for both scenarios, and under neither scenario will anyone be able to undermine the sovereignty and independence of the Georgian state”, the PM concluded.
