Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday said there was no basis for the United Kingdom to impose sanctions on Georgia, however, he did not rule out such a possibility, citing the continued influence of the deep state.
Mdinaradze made these remarks in response to a journalist's question regarding the potential risk of UK sanctions against Georgia following the former President Salome Zourabichvili’s speech in the House of Commons, where she discussed the current situation in the country.
“When an agent is taken somewhere, placed on a high rostrum, and made to hit Georgia and its independence, that is a problem. But do you know what makes it even worse? The fact that people like you reinforce this harmful narrative within Georgia. In my opinion, you are involved in agent-like activities against the state by strengthening this false narrative”, Mdinaradze told a journalist.
He further stressed that Georgia was fighting to strengthen its independence and secure its true Christian, democratic, and European future, arguing that Salome Zourabichvili was fighting against this.
“And now, based on what she said, you are asking me a question that further reinforces this agent-driven narrative. This claim is so baseless that it should not even be considered. However, I cannot completely rule it out, given that the deep state still has its deep-rooted influence everywhere”, he concluded.
