Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday responded to the statement of the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze that the functions of the Audit Service of the Government Administration would be expanded and would include the function of supervising the effectiveness of not only the Government Administration, but also the overall efficiency of the Government’s activities.
In his remarks, Mdinaradze assessed Kobakhidze’s decision as one of the most important decisions in recent times, which would allow the newly created department to monitor the effectiveness of the implementation of decisions by ministries, legal entities of public law, municipal non-commercial legal entities, and other branches of the executive.
“I would like to respond to the decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia to establish the Department of Government Efficiency. This is one of the most important decisions in recent times”, the ruling party official said.
He further emphasised that the spending of taxpayers' funds, budget funds, should be controlled even more strictly.
“The public is aware that when Irakli Kobakhidze was approved as Prime Minister, the team declared the fight against corruption and maximum control over the spending of state funds as one of its main priorities. Despite the fact that a number of reforms have been carried out in this regard over the past year, we believe that even stricter control should be exercised over the spending of taxpayers' funds, i.e. budget funds”, he continued.
“As you know, we have very ambitious plans in this regard, and when the team declares that we must be one of the first in the world in the fight against corruption, that we must have the best results in this direction, this is not easy and today's decision will only help the Prime Minister achieve this goal”, he concluded.
