Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday responded to the conviction of French politician Marine Le Pen, stating that while he does not wish to interfere in France’s internal affairs, he expects the same non-interference from France regarding Georgia’s domestic matters.
“Of course, I don't want to interfere in France's internal affairs, but then, France shouldn't interfere in Georgia's internal affairs either. No one here is an easy target”, the Speaker said.
His remarks come in response to a ruling by a Paris court, which found Marine Le Pen and eight other Members of the European Parliament guilty of misusing EU funds.
As part of the verdict, Le Pen has been barred from holding public office for five years. Additionally, she was sentenced to four years in prison, with two years suspended and the remaining two to be served under electronic monitoring.
