Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Committee on European Integration of the Georgian Parliament, on Friday dismissed the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee's endorsement of the MEGOBARI Act, calling it a meaningless document that may never see the light of day.
In his remarks over the MEGOBARI Act, a bipartisan bill that envisages sanctions against the Georgian Dream Government officials, Makhashvili called a piece of legislation a “hostile act”.
“Every provision of this act serves only one purpose: to turn Georgia into a new hotspot of geopolitical confrontation. Whether the supporters of the act in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee or the Georgian opposition are aware of this, they must also take responsibility for the potential consequences of this act's implementation”, the Parliament official said.
“I am confident that this act will not see the light of day; it is only the decision of one committee. It has a long way to go, and I don't think it will come into force. It is highly likely that it will not come into force at all”, he concluded.
