Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction of the ruling party, on Thursday said Georgia had withstood numerous attacks from abroad, asserting that the Georgian Government had always firmly resisted these attacks, as it was not afraid of blackmail or sanctions.
“It would have been comfortable for our Prime Minister to walk on red carpets like Zelenskyy does, but in that case, our country would have faced a tragedy similar to Ukraine's. We have stood firm, regardless of the types of external attacks we have faced”, the ruling party official said.
He further elaborated on the types of pressure Georgia has faced.
“Not a day would go by, for example, without the former US [Department of State] spokesperson starting to talk about Georgia with journalists. The same from European bureaucrats, how they would send delegations to Georgia, foreign ministers were standing at anti-government rallies – all of this served the purpose of bringing more agitation into our society, to somehow replace us through revolution”, he continued.
“We have withstood everything firmly. We are not afraid of blackmail or sanctions. We have proven through our actions that we are a national, responsible government, guided solely by our country's national interests”, Machavariani concluded.
