Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said the deep state, not the administration of the US President Donald Trump, was the entity opposing the policies of the Georgian Dream party.
Speaking to the media, Kaladze asserted that the deep state was an enemy of Georgia, adding that one should be proud when faced with such “ugliness”.
He further claimed that the deep state’s main desire was to take control of the Georgian court, as they succeeded in Ukraine and in Romania.
“Trump's administration is not fighting against the policies of the Georgian Dream [party], but the deep state is fighting against the Georgian state. Among them, [Senator] Jim Risch is also their representative. Nowadays the deep state has deeply embedded roots both in Georgia and in various countries of the world”, the ruling party official said.
He further claimed that the main goal of the deep state was to take control of Georgia’s judiciary, as they allegedly did in Ukraine and Romania.
“Their main desire was to seize control of the judiciary, which they managed to do in Ukraine and Romania. Do you like what happened in Romania? The Constitutional Court removed a presidential candidate and annulled the elections. They based this on the fact that one of the candidates was more active on social media. Such decisions are unimaginable. When such ugliness fights against you, on the contrary, you should be proud”, he continued.
“We are all in a state of anticipation, observing the developments. Trump had two priorities. First, to end the war in Ukraine. These processes are underway; second, to defeat the deep state, and this is also an ongoing process. We will feel the defeat of the deep state ourselves. Relations will be rebooted and normalised”, Kaladze concluded.
