Thea Tsulukiani, the Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Friday said that political parties or politicians who were refusing to participate in the upcoming local elections scheduled for October were only harming themselves, not the Government.
Tsulukiani was responding to discussions regarding the participation of the radical opposition in the upcoming local elections.
She emphasised that electoral engagement was a fundamental principle of politics.
“A political force that voluntarily decides not to participate in elections is only harming itself. This will not affect the Government in any way”, Tsulukiani said.
Meanwhile, the opposition remains divided on whether to take part in the local elections. Internal disagreements have made it difficult for them to reach a unified decision.
