David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Tuesday criticised a meeting between the visiting former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis and the domestic opposition representatives by saying that “Georgia is facing an intensified attack from Baltic countries that have lost their sovereignty”.
In his remarks, Matikashvili claimed that the Lithuanian politician had arrived in Georgia to issue new directives.
“In fact, Georgia is facing this intensified attack from the Baltic countries that have lost their sovereignty. We can directly call his presence at an anti-government rally in Georgia a hostile attitude. This is an attempt at gross interference in our country's affairs, and now if he joins the clan controlled by the deep state, which is called radicals, there will be nothing surprising in that”, the Parliament official said.
The former Lithuanian Foreign Minister, also notorious for his work in escalation management, is holding meetings with opposition representatives.
Notably, only select media outlets were granted access to the event, while journalists from Imedi TV, Rustavi 2, and the Georgian Public Broadcaster were excluded.
