David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Monday criticised the domestic radical opposition, highlighting their lack of leadership and public support.
“We remember well how the [domestic] radical opposition referred to [former President] Salome Zourabichvili when she was a presidential candidate. We also remember how [domestic opposition and Zourabichvili] later ended up in the same boat, receiving instructions from abroad together, like ordinary agents. It seems that they failed to fulfill these tasks, they were unable to create unrest in the country, they were unable to ignite a fire or organise a revolution”, the Parliament official said.
“Perhaps their internal interests no longer align, but ultimately, for those who receive orders from the same foreign sources - whether it’s Salome Zourabichvili or the rest of the radicals - it makes no difference whether they unite or split. Their rating is zero. The radical opposition is not only leaderless but also entirely unpopular”, he concluded.
