Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction of the ruling party, on Monday spoke out against what he called “baseless accusations” directed at the Georgian Government since the onset of the war in Ukraine.
In his remarks, Machavariani claimed that the root cause of these accusations was Georgia's refusal to be used as a “second front” against Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
He further alleged that attempts had been made to orchestrate revolutions in Georgia with the support of the opposition, with four such attempts having already been made.
Machavariani further singled out the former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, alleging that her husband was maintaining substantial business interests in Russia.
“Kaja Kallas was the Estonian Prime Minister not long ago, and her husband still has very large business interests in Russia, from which he receives millions in dividends, and she calls on us to impose sanctions on Russia and destroy our economy. Lithuania leads in wine exports to Russia, while it itself has no viticulture at all. Latvia, for example, leads in terms of alcoholic beverages import, notably the whiskey import to Russia, while it does not produce the whiskey itself. We are dealing with double standards and injustice”, he continued.
Machavariani further added that there was a lot of lustration, especially since the United States President Donald Trump had taken the Oval Office.
