Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament, on Sunday characterised the recent meeting between the US Ambassador Robin Dunnigan and the Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili as a “routine” diplomatic engagement.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Volski described the development as part of a “normalisation” of global processes, with the new US administration playing a leading role.
Volski also criticised the Georgian opposition, accusing them of launching an “organised attack” against the US and making “very offensive” statements.
“If we recall the tenure of the [former US] Ambassador Kelly Degnan, during Trump’s administration, her statements were quite pragmatic. Back then, the current leader of the “new United National Movement” Nika Gvaramia displayed her portrait on TV screen and declared that she should be expelled from Georgia”, the Parliament official said.
“In this context, when Kelly Degnan or any Ambassador makes statements and visits, it primarily signifies the development of bilateral relations between the two states. Observing the current US policies, perspectives, and statements, it is easy to deduce the objectives and directives given to the current Ambassador”, Volski concluded.
