Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, on Wednesday said the upcoming local elections scheduled for October would play a crucial role in cleansing the domestic radical opposition.
In his remarks, Ionatamishvili noted that the radical opposition was “deeply fearful” of the elections, as they were anticipating defeat.
“There is not much time left before the local elections, and their outcome will be significant. The radical opposition is absolutely terrified of these elections because they know they will lose. This bankrupt opposition is in complete agony - frightened and confused. However, they should look within themselves for the reasons behind this”, the Parliament official said.
“They have always ignored the interests of their own voters and refused to listen to them, which is why they have no future prospects. The local elections will be crucial for cleansing the radical opposition”, he concluded.
