Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament, on Monday criticised the recent statement made by Benjamin Haddad, France’s Minister for European Affairs, who suggested that holding new elections in Georgia could be a way out of the ongoing political crisis.
In his remarks over the matter, Volski noted that France’s administration had its own strategic objectives, particularly the ambition to strengthen its leadership within Europe, further claiming that Georgia was holding special significance for such international players, not necessarily as a nation or society, but as a geopolitical territory of interest.
“The French administration has its own specific task. It has its own interest - to establish leadership in Europe, and of course, Georgia is a particularly important country, but not as a country, not as a society, but as a territory”, the Parliament official said.
“For these people, for representatives of the deep state, changing the Government here is a way to advance their own interests”, he concluded.
