Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday reaffirmed that the next parliamentary elections in the country would take place in 2028 as scheduled, dismissing any speculation to the contrary as “nonsense”.
Speaking to journalists, Kaladze emphasised that those interested in political participation should focus on the upcoming local self-government elections scheduled for October.
“This is absolute nonsense and absurdity, I can tell you with 100 percent certainty. In a few months, local self-government elections will be scheduled by the President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili. Here is their chance - let them take part and see what results they get. The next parliamentary elections will be held in 2028, as stipulated by law. Everything else is nonsense”, the ruling party official said.
Addressing ongoing protests, Kaladze noted that every citizen has the right to express their opinions peacefully.
“If someone gathers on Rustaveli Avenue, a few people come together – everyone has the right to assemble and express their views. The important thing is that it remains peaceful”, he concluded.
