Georgian Parliament delegation, led by Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee, on Saturday featured at the Conference of the Parliamentary Committees on European Integration of the states participating in the stabilisation and association process in South-East Europe, held in Albania's capital city of Tirana.
The Conference brought together high-level officials and experts to discuss EU integration progress, enlargement policy, and regional cooperation.
In his remarks, Makhashvili emphasised the shared aspirations and challenges of EU candidate countries, underlining Georgia’s commitment to European integration.
“Georgia is a future-oriented country, committed to a peaceful and secure Europe. We have repeatedly proven this whether in Afghanistan, the Central African Republic, Iraq, Mali, or through successful reforms. Despite ongoing challenges and the significant threats Georgia continues to face in its development, our goal of returning to the European family remains unwavering”, Makhashvili said.
He further highlighted the necessity of cooperation built on mutual respect, particularly in light of global security challenges.
“We cannot change geography, nor can we choose our neighbours. But what we can change is our ambition to build a stronger Europe in international relations - one that respects its partners and prioritises cooperation rather than disregarding internal developments and rejecting dialogue. This is especially relevant now, as Russia's war against Ukraine rages on, and the rules-based international order as we knew it no longer exists”, he added.
The COSAP conference serves as a permanent platform for parliamentary cooperation on EU accession matters for Western Balkan countries.
