Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Saturday said that the verbal confrontation between the United States President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office of the White House had made it explicitly clear who stands for war and who stands for peace.
In his remarks, Kaladze emphasised the importance of ending the war and maintaining peace, reiterating that certain global forces had a vested interest in prolonging conflicts.
“Yesterday, Trump once again drew a clear line between those who want war and those who want peace. Everything we saw is already obvious, so I won’t elaborate further. What’s more revealing are the statements that followed this debate. In Georgia, we saw reactions from people with no homeland, which once again exposed people who truly wanted war—both inside and outside the country”, Kaladze said.
He accused the so-called “global war party” of fuelling conflicts around the world for financial gain, leading to the destruction of countries and the loss of innocent lives.
Using Ukraine as an example, Kaladze described the situation there as a “complete catastrophe” and stressed the urgent need to bring the war to an end.
“We have always spoken openly about everything, specifically about the existence of a global war party that seeks to wage wars in various countries around the world. Naturally, they profit from this, gaining financial benefits, while countries, cities, and villages are destroyed, and innocent civilians die. Ukraine’s dire situation is a clear example of this—what we see there is a complete catastrophe. Ending this situation is of fundamental importance”, the ruling party official noted.
Kaladze also criticised certain Georgian politicians, accusing them of distorting past events, and recalled how former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s decision not to join international sanctions against Russia was met with strong opposition.
“I’ll recall one example: when then-Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced that Georgia would not join the sanctions, what was the response? There is an archive, and it clearly shows that certain individuals would have preferred bombs to fall on Georgia. Today, everything is out in the open, and society sees everything clearly. Every rational person who loves their homeland can see how the Georgian Dream saved our country from a great disaster”, he concluded.
