Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday drew a stark distinction between what he called the “war party” and the “peace party”, in reference to global reactions to a recent heated debate between the United States President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In a social media post, Kobakhidze asserted that Trump’s peace efforts were met with immediate condemnation from those who, in his view, “cold-bloodedly sacrificed Ukraine and the lives of thousands of Ukrainians” to war.
“Yesterday, once again, a clear line was drawn between the war party and the peace party. I am referring not so much to the debate between Trump and Zelensky but rather to the subsequent reactions to this debate. President Trump and his peace-making efforts were condemned one after another by the people responsible for unleashing a bloody war, sacrificing Ukraine and thousands of Ukrainian lives cold-bloodedly”, the PM said.
“The Global War Party quickly mobilised well-known spokespersons against President Trump - ranging from
[US Senator] Jeanne Shaheen to the numerous bureaucrats in Brussels. They were joined by leaders of the Georgian radical opposition, who just a month ago were flaunting selfies taken in the backstage corridors of Trump's inauguration”, Kobakhidze continued.
He also took aim at the domestic opposition, criticising its leaders for aligning with Western figures he claimed were part of the “war party”.
“It was further proven - something we have been asserting for three years - that the United States and the global war party are two different realities. Let me remind you that our opponents have been trying to equate them all these years”, Kobakhidze noted.
The head of the Government further added that the battle between the war party and the forces seeking peace entered a decisive phase, expressing hope that this battle would conclude with the triumph of peace.
“The sooner the war in Ukraine ends, the fewer Ukrainian lives will be lost, and the sooner stability will return to the region as a whole. I wish President Trump strength and resilience in this challenging battle”, he concluded.
