Davit Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Friday said that Paweł Herczyński, the European Union Ambassador to the country, was engaged in the promotion of “non-European values”.
In his remarks, Matikashvili noted that the EU Ambassador had overstepped diplomatic boundaries.
“It is unfortunate that we have to say this, but it is a fact that the EU Ambassador has overstepped diplomatic boundaries. He crossed red lines long ago and appears to have become a mouthpiece for the deep state in Georgia”, the Parliament official said.
“Instead of fostering harmony in interstate relations, bringing Georgia closer to the EU, and working toward positive objectives, the Ambassador is promoting separation, confrontation, and values that are neither European nor acceptable to the EU”, the official continued.
Matikashvili further expressed hope that the situation would be rebooted and that future EU diplomatic representatives would fulfill their mission “properly”.
“I sincerely hope that the situation will be rebooted and that future EU diplomatic representatives will fulfill their mission properly rather than acting as spokespersons for forces whose objectives, regrettably, do not align with our country’s European path or democratic development”, he concluded.
