Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said neither Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and Honorary Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, nor the Government “would ever take any steps, under any form of blackmail, that would directly lead to the destruction of the country”.
In his remarks over the matter, Kobakhidze emphasised that the discussion in the British House of Commons regarding sanctions against Ivanishvili had been an attempt of “helpless blackmail”.
“This blackmail started three years ago with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. You know that there were specific demands made of us, including specific demands directed at Bidzina Ivanishvili”, the PM said.
“The blackmail was linked to all of this, but it was futile, as neither Bidzina Ivanishvili nor the Government would, under any circumstances, take steps that would directly lead to the country’s destruction”, the PM concluded.
