Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday accused the domestic opposition and foreign-funded NGOs of attempting to weaken the country from within, calling it their “shameful agenda”.
In his remarks, Papuashvili noted that the upcoming local self-government elections in October would serve as a moment of reckoning for them.
“There will be local self-government elections in October, which will be scheduled by the President Mikheil Kavelashvili, along with the Prime Minister of Georgia. When these elections take place, the opposition will have to participate and face judgment for their disgraceful actions. The Georgian people have passed such verdicts before, and they will do so again”, the Parliament Speaker said.
He emphasised the importance of unity amid global changes and accused opposition forces and NGOs of actively working against the country’s interests.
“We see how much is changing in the world, and in such times, having a consolidated position and internal strength is crucial. Meanwhile, the opposition and foreign-funded NGOs are engaged in breaking Georgia from within. This is their shameful agenda”, he concluded.
