Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday expressed his hope that peace would be established in Ukraine “as soon as possible” in his comments over the third anniversary of Russia's invasion.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that it was a “truly tragic” date in the history of “our friendly country, Ukraine”.
“Today marks three years since the start of the war in Ukraine. This is a truly tragic date in the history of our friendly country, Ukraine. The consequences of the war are very heavy for our friendly country, for our friendly people. Many people have died as a result of this war. Up to ten million Ukrainians have become displaced persons, refugees. 20 percent of Ukraine's territories are currently occupied by the Russian Federation, the infrastructure, economy, and energy have been destroyed. Ukraine's foreign debt reaches almost 100 percent of the economy. This year's figure is 96 percent, and by the end of the year this figure will already exceed 100 percent”, the PM said.
“Our first and foremost wish for our friend country and its people is peace. It is fundamentally important for the ongoing process related to establishing peace in Ukraine to come to a swift and successful conclusion. Once again, I want to express hope that peace will be established in our friend country Ukraine as soon as possible”, he concluded.
