Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Monday emphasised the importance of introducing a bill mirroring the United States Foreign Agents Registration Act, calling it crucial for the country’s statehood and security.
“This is of utmost importance for our statehood and national security”, Kirtskhalia told journalists, stressing the necessity of regulating foreign funding.
He further noted that recent events had demonstrated the potential dangers of foreign-funded organisations operating in Georgia.
“We have seen the effects of hostile foreign funding flowing into our country and beyond. Our nation has successfully avoided multiple attempts at destabilization”, he added.
The proposed bill, modeled precisely after the US FARA, is set to be officially registered in the parliamentary bureau on Monday.
