Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Sunday outlined his Government’s aspirations not only to reboot relations with the United States but to renew the strategic partnership with Washington with a clear roadmap and a fresh start.
In his remarks over the matter, Kobakhidze noted that the proposal from his Government was both direct and open, and aimed at fostering stronger ties with the United States leadership.
“We want to reboot relations with the United States, and we have made multiple statements over this. However, we seek more than just a reboot. We want to renew our strategic partnership with a specific roadmap, starting from a clean slate. This is our open proposal to the United States Government”, the PM said.
“We understand that the Trump administration has many pressing domestic issues to address, including efforts to end the war. Given this, they may not have enough time for Georgia at this stage. However, I believe that at some point, the Trump administration will take a serious interest in the United States-Georgia relations. This should serve as the foundation for rebooting our relationship”, Kobakhidze noted.
The Prime Minister further added that much of the success of this reboot hinged on the defeat of the deep state.
He asserted that the progress of the United States-Georgia relations would depend largely on President Trump's success in overcoming these internal challenges.
