In an exclusive interview with an Azerbaijani television channel, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili addressed key issues regarding foreign relations.
Kavelashvili claimed that the stance previously taken by the Georgian Government was now being echoed by the Trump administration.
The President argued that the deep state, which he referred to as the global war party, had been working to prolong global conflicts.
“What is currently happening on a global scale, particularly the actions of the Trump administration, highlights the existence of specific forces that were interested in the war. This refers to the deep state, which we in Georgia have called the global war party. Their interest was to keep the war going for as long as possible. We spoke about this from the very beginning, and now the Trump administration is talking about it as well”, the Georgian President noted.
He further explained that Georgia had faced external pressure to take a more active role in the Ukraine conflict, including calls to join sanctions, send volunteers, and provide weapons - moves that, in his view, would have directly entangled the country in the war.
“Our country was urged to be more active in the Ukraine war, to join the sanctions, to send volunteers and weapons, actions that were directly linked to dragging Georgia into the war. The Ukrainian Government also pressured us in this regard, even recalling their Ambassador. The situation was very tense, and we could feel it. The previous United States administration was also following this path of pressure”, Kavelashvili concluded.
