Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament, on Friday strongly criticised the recent statement made by the Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski regarding Georgia’s political direction, who claimed the presence of “anti-European trend” in the country introduced by the ruling party.
In his remarks, Volski labeled Sikorski’s remarks as “shameless” and denied any presence of anti-European sentiment in Georgia.
He further claimed that certain factions within the European Union were actively working to bring about a change in Georgia’s Government, and he saw Sikorski’s statement as part of this broader effort.
“I believe that this is a shameless statement from [Radosław Sikorski]. He is directly connected to certain processes aimed at forming an antagonistic alliance against Georgia. His wife [Anne Applebaum], who is a member of a major foundation’s board, specifically NED [National Endowment for Democracy], and other individuals aligned with these objectives are working to create problems in Georgia that could lead to a change in Government”, the Parliament official said.
“There is no anti-European sentiment in Georgia. In many aspects, we are ahead of Poland in establishing European standards, whether in the fight against corruption, judicial fairness, or governance transparency”, he concluded.
