Maia Bitadze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Environment Protection and Natural Resources Committee, on Thursday said any attempt to discredit the conclusion made by the OSCE/ODIHR report on the latest elections held in the country was not only an attack on Georgia’s interests but also undermined the OSCE as an international organisation with an observer function.
“Both in the main session and in all committees, our delegation emphasised the importance of the OSCE as an international organisation with a monitoring role, including for the 2024 elections, where the OSCE's conclusion specifically pointed out that the elections were held in an open and competitive environment despite the challenges”, the Parliament official said.
“Therefore, any attempt to discredit this conclusion is not only an attack on Georgia’s interests but also weakens the OSCE as an institution with an observer function. This is extremely dangerous when considering the OSCE’s future role in the region”, she concluded.
