Davit Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Wednesday said European Union bureaucrats would “inevitably” have to recognise the truth that, for years, they had been fostering false perceptions about Georgia in an attempt to drag the country into the same dire situation that “our friend and brotherly nation Ukraine is currently facing”.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Matikashvili claimed European funds have now fallen under the control of the deep state, which, through these resources, was aiding the “war party” in spreading negative narratives and pursuing insidious plans to involve Georgia in war.
“The EU and its bureaucracy will be forced to face reality - not the fabricated scenarios or staged perceptions, but actual facts. Today, the deep state has been cut off from American taxpayers' money by the United States, blocking their access to funds via USAID and NED. However, they still have access to European financial resources, which they are using to manipulate public opinion and push Georgia toward war. For certain forces, Georgia has long been considered part of this grim geopolitical scenario”, the Parliament Committee Chair said.
He further suggested that United States President Donald Trump’s foreign policy, which prioritised peace, would inevitably influence EU policies, forcing European officials to reconsider their actions regarding Georgia.
“What does this mean? It means that the foreign policy approach of Donald Trump and the US, which is focused on ensuring peace, will inevitably reach the EU. Whether EU bureaucrats like it or not, they will have to admit the unfortunate truth - that over the years, particularly in recent times, certain officials and elements of the deep state have been working to distort perceptions about Georgia. Their goal was to drag our country into the same confrontation that Ukraine is suffering from today. This reality will have a lasting impact on the European Union”, Matikashvili concluded.
