Thierry Mariani, a French member of the European Parliament, on Wednesday reiterated that the parliamentary elections held in Georgia last October had been conducted “at a proper level”.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Mariani emphasised that it was time to put an end to fake news and respect democracy in Georgia.
“There is always a chance that a resolution against Georgia will be put forward in every session. This is counterproductive for national policy. Essentially, during every session, votes are cast against your country, undermining trust in the Parliament. There is also some opposition to this approach, as Georgia does not wish to do what the European Parliament envisions”, he said.
“It is your choice, and you are not alone. This session will also feature debates against Serbia. A significant portion of this Parliament’s time is dedicated to resolutions against countries that do not align with the EU’s policies”, the MEP continued.
“I repeat, your elections were conducted at a proper level. I read the OSCE/ODIHR report after the elections - it is a public document, accessible to everyone, and was published on December 20. I remember hearing in the Parliament that the elections should be annulled, but this is not mentioned in the report. Therefore, it is time to stop spreading fake news and to respect democracy in Georgia”, Mariani concluded.
