Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Committee on European Integration of the Georgian Parliament, on Wednesday said there was no basis for scheduling new parliamentary elections in the country or postponing the upcoming local elections.
In his remarks, Makhashvili noted that those with political ambitions should prepare for the local elections rather than expect any changes in the electoral calendar.
“It is difficult for me to assess Joe Wilson [US Congressman] as a politician. I listened to his entire statement, and the public could see how unserious his remarks were, as they were devoid of evidence”, the Parliament official said.
“As for the elections, there is no basis for holding new parliamentary elections or postponing the local elections. Our only plan is to prepare for the local elections. I urge everyone to respect the results of the 2024 elections and, if they have political ambitions, to focus on the local elections”, Makhashvili concluded.
