Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Sunday responded to Transparency International’s funding disclosures, asserting that foreign donors were behind radical non-governmental organisations.
In a social media post, Papuashvili claimed that recent revelations by the United States administration were validating concerns about foreign-funded NGOs.
Papuashvili’s comment came after the domestic NGO Transparency International Georgia had recently published a social media post, stating that “Georgia stands at a crucial juncture - our choice is either freedom or Russian dictatorship”.
In response Papuashvili noted that the organisation was funded by the USAID and the Swedish Government.
“Behind every radical NGO stands a radical donor. This is precisely what the new United States administration has exposed in recent days. Transparency International is funded by the USAID and the Swedish Government”, the Parliament Speaker said.
