Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said on Wednesday that the domestic radical opposition and “anti-constitutional” parties were “completely irrelevant”, claiming that they were incapable of either achieving anything or disrupting the country’s progress.
Speaking to journalists about the radical opposition, Papuashvili said its entire political activity and agenda amounted to monitoring what others were doing and attempting to associate itself with either positive or negative developments.
“Generally, as for the radical opposition and anti-constitutional parties, they are incapable of doing anything - neither accomplishing anything nor disrupting anything. They are completely irrelevant. If anything good is being done, they try to take credit for it. Whether it concerns secondary transfers or anything else, we have announced a new initiative to raise the property tax threshold, and generally, whenever anything good happens, they try to take credit for it because they themselves cannot do anything good”, Papuashvili said.
He added that whenever the opposition seeks to disrupt something, it also tries to claim a role in that disruption.
“Today, the opposition’s entire activity and agenda is to watch what others are doing. Whether it is good or bad, they try to take part in the good and exacerbate the bad as much as possible - whether something objectively happens or someone has such an intention”, Papuashvili concluded.
