Tornike Paghava, the Deputy Chair of the Committee on European Integration of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday commented on a statement by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, saying his criticism of Brussels demonstrates that the concerns previously raised by the Georgian Dream government regarding the European Union were justified.
In his remarks, Paghava noted that Magyar was, and likely remains, one of the European leaders favoured by the EU bureaucracy.
“Magyar was, and probably still is, one of the European bureaucracy’s favourite leaders. The fact that such a figure is now speaking about a crisis within the EU bureaucracy says it all”, he said.
He argued that Magyar’s remarks confirmed the Georgian Dream government’s previous claims of insincerity and double standards among European officials.
“After becoming Prime Minister, Magyar himself acknowledges that there is a governance crisis within the European bureaucracy. This once again shows that the concerns, insincerity and double standards we, as the Georgian Dream team, have pointed to over the past four years were justified”, he noted.
“These double standards have been applied not only to Georgia; today, they are being applied to Hungary as well”, Paghava concluded.
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar said it was difficult for Hungarians to understand why Brussels was treating Hungary unfairly over migration issues.
