Davit Matikashvili, the Chair of the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules of the Georgian Parliament, on Wednesday asserted that Nauru’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with the self-proclaimed Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions directly reflects the success of the ruling Georgian Dream party’s foreign policy.
In his remarks, Matikashvili criticised the domestic opposition, noting that critics deliberately choose to ignore the tangible achievements of the ruling Georgian Dream party regarding the country's sovereignty.
“They will walk along the riverbed and will not see a stone, those who do not want to see this. This is how the radicals and their ideologues behave”, he said.
“It is precisely the result of the correct policy of the Georgian Dream government that individual countries that recognised the independence of Abkhazia and thereby practically put the country’s sovereignty under question are withdrawing these recognitions”, Matikashvili concluded.
Nauru has officially withdrawn its recognition of Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali as independent states, with the formal decision on the cancellation of diplomatic relations dated July 21.
