Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration, on Tuesday said that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly exceeded its mandate with the resolution concerning Georgia, describing it as a very dangerous precedent that further undermines the credibility of international institutions.
In his remarks, Ionatamishvili argued that the resolution goes beyond the OSCE PA’s proper scope, especially at a time when the effectiveness of international institutions is already weakened globally.
“With this resolution, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has gone beyond its mandate, and this is a very dangerous precedent, especially at a time when the effectiveness of international institutions has already been significantly undermined at the global level”, Ionatamishvili said.
The official emphasised that while these resolutions could not genuinely harm Georgia, they significantly erode the credibility and authority of the institutions that adopt them.
“Such resolutions, which are drafted and promoted by certain groups in an attempt to harm Georgia, cannot actually damage Georgia. However, they certainly undermine the credibility and authority of these institutions themselves”, he concluded.
