Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday described the resolution adopted by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly as a scandal for the organisation itself, accusing it of distorting the findings of the OSCE election observation mission and serving narrow political interests rather than objective reality.
Commenting on the resolution initiated by US Congressman Joe Wilson, Papuashvili criticised the consistent targeting of Georgia by the same group of individuals across various international forums, including PACE and NATO PA.
“We are always concerned first and foremost with our own country and our own issues. Other countries may have similar challenges, but with regard to Georgia, we saw that through this resolution, Joe Wilson once again showed his true face and reminded us of his role. We also saw one thing clearly: with this resolution, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly distorted the findings of the OSCE election observation mission”, he said.
The Speaker noted that the resolution contains manipulation rather than factual assessments.
“This anti-Georgian resolution, adopted today by groups that have their own political interests regarding Georgia, is a scandal for the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly itself. We see the same people and the same faces across all these institutions - whether it is the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the OSCE, or other similar forums. The same names and faces keep appearing. These individuals have singled out Georgia and are determined to harm our country by any means possible”, Papuashvili noted.
He further highlighted that such actions demonstrate a departure from the principles of the rules-based international order.
“Their conduct confirms that the rules-based international order no longer exists. These people are acting according to the rules of the 19th century, prepared to use various instruments to attack an entire country in pursuit of their own political agenda”, he concluded.
