Alan Purcell, the acting US Ambassador to Georgia, on Wednesday reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Speaking at a reception marking the 250th anniversary of US Independence, he noted that Americans and Georgians share a deep bond rooted in their common aspiration for freedom and independence.
In his address, Purcell highlighted the US-Georgia partnership, which has spanned more than thirty years since Georgia regained its independence.
“For over three decades, since the restoration of Georgia’s independence, the United States has stood as a committed partner to the Georgian people and its institutions”, he said.
He highlighted recent cooperation, including the Poti seaport expansion project, which is supported by the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation.
“Georgians and Americans have worked side by side to advance the well-being of both our nations. Mr. Prime Minister, a recent testament to this partnership was our meeting last week in Poti, where we officially announced the expansion of the new seaport - a project made possible through the financial support of the US International Development Finance Corporation”, Purcell noted.
He further emphasized that fostering people-to-people ties remains a top priority for the Embassy.
“People-to-people ties remain the cornerstone of our partnership, representing a long-standing priority for this Embassy. Americans hold a special affection for Georgia - a sentiment I feel personally - and I believe that the profound understanding between our nations stems from our shared aspiration for freedom and independence. The United States remains steadfast in its support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders”, he stressed.
Purcell expressed his honor in working alongside Georgia’s partners and concluded his address by extending warm greetings to the people of both nations.
“Our partnership is best reflected in the moments when members of the Georgian Defence Forces and American service members have performed the most challenging missions abroad, side by side. Their shared bravery has brought our nations even closer. We remember with profound gratitude those Georgian and American heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in this common service - a sacrifice that binds our two countries together in an unbreakable bond. It is a great honour for me to work alongside you. Happy Independence Day, America, and long live Georgia”, Purcell concluded.
