Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday said the decision to create a department for combating hate speech was timely.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that the polarisation that had been imposed on the public from the outside in recent years must end.
“I think that this initiative was very timely and important, because hate speech is categorically unacceptable. We must do everything to end the polarisation that I am sure has been imposed from the outside. Hundreds of millions have been spent over the years to achieve these results”, Kaladze said.
“There may be different opinions, political views, but we must be able to express all this in moderation, within the framework of the law, and not through insults. We all know very well what is happening, what comments are written and made on social networks. I think that this decision was timely”, he concluded.
