Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said that improving Georgia’s political and democratic system was a key priority for the coming year, adding that his government takes full responsibility for the country’s development and progress across all sectors.
During his annual address to the Parliament, Kobakhidze outlined his government’s priorities for the upcoming reporting year, emphasising political reform alongside economic, social, and infrastructural development.
“One of the key and fundamental tasks for our country and for the government, alongside areas such as the economy, infrastructure, healthcare, social protection, and many others discussed today, is the improvement of the political and democratic system”, he said.
He argued that strengthening the political system was essential for national stability and long-term progress.
“We must do everything in the coming reporting year to finally improve Georgia’s political system. The first steps have already been taken, but this must be brought to completion, and we must do this together. Our country is a small country - very dignified, but small - and accordingly, our resources are limited due to the size of our territory and population. In such conditions, the challenges are many, and the country cannot afford to have spies and agents in its political spectrum. Therefore, decisive steps must be taken in this regard, and of course, this should be a key focus of our work over the next year”, he noted.
The Prime Minister also stressed that his government was committed to ensuring what he described as a decisive improvement of Georgia’s political environment.
“And once again, I will emphasise that the government of Georgia takes full responsibility for the country’s progress and development in all directions over the coming year as well, and above all, we take responsibility for putting our heart and soul into the development of this country”, Kobakhidze concluded.
