Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Friday said that the most important conclusion from Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s annual report was that Georgia has successfully preserved peace, stability, economic development, and state dignity in an extremely difficult geopolitical environment.
Following the Prime Minister’s address to Parliament, Kirtskhalia emphasised the historical significance of maintaining peace.
“The Prime Minister’s report today once again showed the main point - that Georgia, in an extremely difficult geopolitical environment, is maintaining peace, stability, economic development, and state dignity. This is a fundamental result whose importance is sometimes lost in daily political noise, but which has historical value for our country”, he said.
“We live in an era when there is war in the region, the global security architecture is under strain, confrontation in international relations is intensifying, pressure, double standards, and attempts to influence smaller states are increasing. In such a situation, Georgia’s main task is not to become part of someone else’s political experiments, but to protect its own people, its sovereignty, its state, and its future. The most important political conclusion from today’s report is precisely this - that Georgia has managed to preserve peace”, Kirtskhalia continued.
He credited the government’s consistent policy, initiated by Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and honorary chair of the ruling party, for protecting the country from risky adventures and external pressures.
“We must say it directly: this did not happen by chance. It is the result of the peace policy initiated by Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili and which the current government continues consistently today. It is due to his political vision, sense of state responsibility, and correct understanding of national interests that Georgia did not allow risks that could have led our country to catastrophic outcomes”, he stressed.
He described peace not as a mere slogan but as a daily responsible decision benefiting all citizens.
“Peace is not a slogan. Peace is a daily political decision. Peace is responsibility toward the citizen who wants to raise a child in a safe country. Peace is responsibility toward students, teachers, soldiers, doctors, pensioners, and businesses. Peace is a prerequisite for economic growth, tourism, investment, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and the country’s successful future. Some wanted, and still want, Georgia to be involved in scenarios that would have taken away our peace. But the government chose not adventure, but prudence; not emotional radicalism, but state wisdom; not serving others’ interests, but defending Georgia’s national interests”, Kirtskhalia noted.
The MP reaffirmed Georgia’s European choice as a civilisational priority, but stressed it must be pursued with dignity, rejecting double standards, unjust approaches, and political blackmail from parts of the European bureaucracy.
“Yes, we are loyal to the European future. Georgia’s European choice is our historical, civilisational, and political choice. But the European choice does not mean giving up our dignity. It does not mean that Georgia must silently accept any unjust approach, double standards, or political pressure from the European bureaucracy”, he stressed.
“Unfortunately, in recent times we have repeatedly seen that parts of the European bureaucracy do not act toward Georgia in accordance with the principles of justice, equality, and respect on which the European idea itself should stand. When a country is asked for loyalty but is not given fair assessment; when the European aspirations of a people are used as an instrument of political pressure; when real reforms and results are sometimes overshadowed by political conjuncture - a national government must speak and act openly, with dignity and principle. And that is exactly what we are doing”, Kirtskhalia concluded.
