Gusty Graas, Luxembourg representative to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), on Wednesday stressed the importance of Georgia’s return to European space and to the Council of Europe, calling the country a significant candidate for European Union membership and affirming its rightful place within the organisation.
In his remarks with Imedi TV, Graas expressed optimism that a consensus could be reached that would allow Georgia to regain its status as a full member of the Council of Europe.
“It is very important that Georgia returns to European space and the Council of Europe. We hope that Georgia will make certain changes, because it is also a significant candidate country for the European Union. Therefore, Georgia is truly a country that has its place in the Council of Europe. Personally, I am convinced that dialogue should not be interrupted”, he noted.
He added that he remains optimistic about the possibility of reaching an agreement.
“I am more optimistic that we will find a way and be able to reach consensus so that Georgia returns and becomes again a full member of the Council of Europe”, Grass concluded.
