Maia Bitadze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Environment Protection and Natural Resources Committee, on Monday said Georgian citizens had already become accustomed to “template resolutions”, including those from the Council of Europe, assessing it as very unfortunate.
In her interview with Imedi TV, Bitadze noted that everyone already knew that the resolutions were initiated by political groups that were allies of the domestic opposition United National Movement party.
“It can be said that our citizens have already become accustomed to template resolutions, including those from the Council of Europe, which is very unfortunate. We all know very well that resolutions are initiated by political groups that can be said to be allies or parent parties of the [United] National Movement. In this case, I am talking about ALDE, ALDE is the initiator of this resolution, which in itself speaks volumes”, Bitadze said.
She further emphasised that the Georgian Government was being called upon to repeal laws that were in effect not only in a number of European Union countries, but also in Great Britain.
“Each state tries to tighten a number of laws every year to protect order, today we are called upon to repeal [of laws] upon this utopian resolution. On the other hand, they are again politicising a simple crime. We know very well that there are no political prisoners in Georgia. Simply, there is a crime, as a result of which a response is made. Accordingly, the calculation and rhetoric in relation to Georgia are already outdated”, Bitadze added.
“It is very unfortunate that, despite the fact that we had very active communication with the head of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, who also visited [Georgia], still, the draft resolutions of the parties in the National Movement alliance, in this case ALDE, are gaining strength.I mean the report in this case, where the same texts are repeated in relation to Georgia”, she concluded.
